Info -
US progressive/technical death metal Xenosis have been at it for years, honing their craft with each album and showcasing a flair for experimentation too. On their fifth full-length album, "Hermetic Transmutation", they retain their core sound as they elaborate on both the progressive and technical aspects, even borrowing elements of brutal death metal and dissonant death metal to achieve that. The influences are finely integrated into their ever throbbing, busy music, never seeming forced and instead adding meaningful variation to their intense sound. The music's persistent groove belies its highly intricate quality; there's just so much happening while you're busy bobbing your head, tapping your feet, or rolling on the floor. After years of toiling, Xenosis have created a delightfully engrossing album that is bound to confound, tantalize, and ultimately satiate fans of this kind of music.

Genre - Progressive/technical death metal

Info -
Canadian death metal band Goreworm mesh different death metal styles in a way that's both confounding and challenging. They're throwing technical, melodic, and brutal death metal elements into a high-speed blender—hardly the most conventional approach—and when the music still manages to sound so coherent, it warrants a closer listen. They seem to have coalesced the influences on an almost cellular level - the aural phantasmic entity emanating from the speakers sounds decidedly Goreworm even when constantly showing glimpses of different musical personalities. "Miasmic Solitude" is Goreworm's most evolved creation to date and it must be celebrated for its passionate and innovative take on the technical death metal style.

For fans of: Arsis, Gorod, Xenosis, Fleshbore, Obscura

Info -
Defect Designer have kept progressing with each album and they seem to have reached the acme with this one. It's wildly diverse and refreshing while retaining their core sound; it's a marvel how they continue to remain death metal or keep reverting to it after unabashedly exploring various sounds and imbibe influences from so many unrelated and unexpected styles. No song is redundant or sounding too similar at this point; they have something or the other hidden in it, often towards the end. This is decidedly their most ambitious album and they've outdone themselves on this one to offer a singular, exhilarating experience for the true prog-minded fans of the style. With the music on "Depressants" being as colourful as the Ian Miller artwork, it is anything but what the album title suggests - that's just the classic tongue-in-cheek Defect Designer for you.

UK Technical/Death Metal institution Cognizance unveil their third single "The Zone" off their 4th full-length album "In Light, No Shape" coming 1st May 2026 via Willowtip Records.

"In Light, No Shape" is available for preorders on CD/LP/Digital.
Order via Willowtip ► https://bit.ly/inlightnoshape-willowtip
Order via Bandcamp ► https://bit.ly/inlightnoshape-bandcamp

In Light, No Shape is a masterful Progressive Death Metal opus, rich in texture and atmospheric detail, delivering everything long-time listeners crave while channeling the mid-90s technical extremity of Death, Extol, and Meshuggah. This time, the band deliberately fractures the conventions of modern extreme production, opting instead for a more organic and visceral mix that sharpens the defining traits of their work.

In Light, No Shape marks the first lineup shift in a decade, as the band sharpen from a quintet to a quartet with founding guitarist Alex Baillie stepping forward as vocalist while retaining guitar duties, following the 2023 departure of founding vocalist Henry “Big Mac” Pryce.

“This record is a defining milestone for us. Taking on vocals has pushed us to re-engineer how we experiment with the blend of elements in our sound, unlocking new creative pathways to compliment the core identity of the band. What you will hear are four dudes all adding their flavours to the melting pot to create a body of work that felt completely natural to us.”
Alex Baillie (Vocals/Guitar)

Mix and Master by Ronnie Björnström (AEON, BLOOD RED THRONE).
Artwork by Jef Whitehead (NAILS, LEVIATHAN).
Produced by Alex Baillie and Apostolis Karydis.
Photography by Nadine Geuter.

Lyrics:
Through rust and shattered glass
An unspoken promise slumbers
Awaits to be awakened
It shifts morbidly, steadily
With currents of unseen motion
Smeared reflections in pools of lead

A framed picture
Depiction of dread
Magnetic currents
Whisper absolution

A catalyst for psychological distortion
By calloused hands and burning breath
Deterministic fate dissolves into corrosion
By calloused hands and burning breath

Synaptic tides pull me forward
Through a wreckage of devotion
My shallow words echo in vacant fields

Deterministic fate dissolves into corrosion
Synaptic tides pull me forward

The weight of sacrifice laid bare
Every name dissolved in entropy
Every step a factual prayer

Underneath the cold steel moon
A wish granting sphere
Is bathed in its dying glow

No guiding star, no sovereign voice
Only the void left to bestow
What was it I wanted? Is this what I sought?
A curse, a gift, a lie?
A metaphorical gordian knot

Info -
US progressive/technical death metal Xenosis have been at it for years, honing their craft with each album and showcasing a flair for experimentation too.

Info -
Defect Designer have kept progressing with each album and they seem to have reached the acme with this one.

UK Technical/Death Metal institution Cognizance unveil their second single "A Game Of Proliferation" off their 4th full-length album "In Light, No Shape" coming 1st May 2026 via Willowtip Records.

Apostolis Karydis - Lead Guitar
Chris Binns - Bass (Lead)

Info -
Canadian death metal band Goreworm mesh different death metal styles in a way that's both confounding and challenging.

RED GOLIATH

Lyrics

The hunger drives me forward to hunt the red goliath
Vine and concrete fight around me
Conquering the violent land that we lived on
before the limb of Leviticus came
Gone are the days that we thought we would see god
at the gate lifting up the ones who prayed
Faith turned to fear
when a spear from the sky drilled
down into the first skull
commandeering random bodies
Now in the calm of the sky ophidian recoil
we crawl along the ground we dominated
Left by it’s grace we can starve but we can’t die
Immortal human vermin stranded by their curse of pride
The sky limb bred us a vile mammoth
The red one our only prey to hunt
I must kill and eat it
I must flay the body that I dug out from the ladder
Become the hunter
The hunger drives me forward to hunt the red goliath
Vine and concrete fight around me
conquering the violent land that we lived on
before the limb of Leviticus came
A bear's skull melded with vulture wings
bison pelt and a panther spinal column
Apex with a thousand mouths
riddled with tongues and eyes
taken from land and sea
The ground breaks under its weight
Its network of throats echo death and decay
through vine and concrete into the caves
The limb bred every animal that wasn’t human into one
Flayed one lay before me
howling out to the sky void the name I once held
Gone are the days that we thought we would see god
at the gate
lifting up the ones who prayed
Faith turned to fear
when a spear from the sky drilled
down into the first skull
commandeering random bodies
Now in the calm of the sky ophidian recoil
We crawl along the ground we dominated
Left by it’s grace we can starve but we can’t die
Immortal human vermin stranded by their curse of pride
The reborn
I know they are not human
The mimic replicates her voice to torture me
It begins the begging
Simulated desperation clawing at my starving body
Nail her feet into the ground
to beckon the abominant prey
Its many tongue shifting in ravenous malice
engorged by the stench of the black fluid within the bait
In one last attempt
the bound desperate replicant
begins reciting past intimate memories
The flayed one lay before me
Howling out to the sky void the name I once held
Rain down your salivation
red one widen your jaws
engulf and consume this our offering
I release the blade to decapitate
I swing a razor pendulum built out of vine and relic metal
Then Down it came
one head of the beast
The rest ran away
I eat a mutant brain of dog and hawk and vomit up regret
The flayed one lay before me
Howling out to the sky void the name I once held
Rain down your salivation
red one widen your jaws
engulf and consume this our offering

Rain down your salivation
red one widen your jaws
engulf and consume this our offering
I release the blade to decapitate
I swing a razor pendulum built out of vine and relic metal
Then Down it came
one head of the beast
The rest ran away
I eat a mutant brain of dog and hawk and vomit up regret
The flayed one lay before me
Howling out to the sky void the name I once held
Rain down your salivation
red one widen your jaws
engulf and consume this our offering

"The Ossuary Lens" serves as ALLEGAEON’s seventh full-length overall, but it’s the first to feature the return of original vocalist Ezra Haynes since his 2015 departure following the "Elements Of The Infinite" album. Replacing a singer is no easy task, so the fact that Haynes was in a place to rejoin is reason to celebrate. The cleaner vocal approach on the last three albums was a fascinating artistic maneuver, one that refreshed ALLEGAEON, but it’s undeniably thrilling to hear Haynes’ graveled larynx back in the fold on this inarguably brutal and technically dazzling slab of work.

"The Ossuary Lens," while not a concept album in the traditional sense, is a representation of several different viewpoints of death. “Each song is a different topic, however there’s always a different perspective of death tied in,” says Haynes. “Since the entire album revolves around this overarching theme of death, and the different viewpoints associated with it, we found ourselves very attached to the word ‘Ossuary,’ and since the album takes a look at death through different points of view, we found The Ossuary Lens to be very fitting for the album title.”

The record was recorded with producer Dave Otero at Flatline Audio studio in Denver. It marks the sixth album recorded with Otero. It’s of no surprise then that the sound on "The Ossuary Lens" pummels the listener, though the ferocity is balanced by the overt melodies. It’s the most triumphant and cohesive body of work that they’ve ever laid down.

New signing announcement: Death metal band Goreworm from Canada

We're glad to work with Canadian band Goreworm who have forged their own kind of prog/tech death metal music using influences ranging from melodic to brutal death metal. It sounds strange on paper and yet they seem to make it work somehow. It takes a few listens for it all to fall in place but that's part of the charm of this release. You can listen to one of the songs from the album now.

Band's statement: It is a great honor to be working with Transcending Obscurity Records for the release of our new record. This one has been a long time coming, we have had many setbacks but we never gave up and now the time is here. This new record may be a bit of a new direction for us but the core elements of Goreworm are still present featuring our fast paced blend of melodic, technical, and brutal death metal. We hope everyone who listens will enjoy the music.

Line up -
Robert Miller - Vocals
Jordan Estrela - Guitars
Brent Moerschfelder - Guitars/Bass
Robin Stone - Session Drums

Cognizance "Witness Marks" - Official Video

UK Technical/Death Metal institution Cognizance unveil their first single "Witness Marks" off their 4th full-length album "In Light, No Shape" coming 1st May 2026 via Willowtip Records.

*PREORDERS COMING THIS FRIDAY*

LYRICS:
Ritualistic ascension
The shallow sky initiates her conscription

A mechanised conveyor belt of helpless minds set to escape
The collapse of earthly ideals
The manufactured pulse beating endlessly
Ant-like figures to their heavenly trajectory

Preceding impossibilities
Lost to the dissolution of time
Basking within empirical satisfaction

Ritualistic ascension
The shallow sky initiates her conscription

The blade, a dagger, in the stale terrestrial soil
Its origin a symptom of otherworldly instrumentation
Beyond the work of man
The blade, a dagger, rupturing earth's skin

Bound by the weight of self-determined obligation
Conflicting philosophies
Call for eternal commitment

Ritualistic ascension
The shallow sky initiates her conscription

Industrial enclave
Breaching the fractured horizon
A symbol of ambiguity
Belching thick swathes of smoke
Merging with the canopy of clouds
The great enigma watches over all

Pollutants and natural textures
Form an opaque barrier
Which no eye can see beyond
Pushing the boundaries for mortal drones
Beyond the work of man

Info -
Defect Designer have kept progressing with each album and they seem to have reached the acme with this one.

Cryptic Shift - Cryogenically Frozen (Official)

“Cryogenically Frozen” is the latest single from UK progressive death metallers CRYPTIC SHIFT. The track comes off the band’s Overspace & Supertime full-length, set to drop on February 27th through Metal Blade Records.

Issues vocalist/guitarist Alexander Bradley, “Contrasting the prolonged, cinematic opening of our previous album [Visitations From Enceladus] ‘Cryogenically Frozen’ wastes no time by bursting into a flurry of jazz fusion-esque movements as if metal had an alternate timeline progressing from the lineage of masters like Cynic, Pestilence, and Allan Holdsworth, whilst still remaining true to our death/thrashing tendencies with lightning riffs tailor-made for the headbangers and circle pitters! Simultaneously, all aspects of our songwriting propel our new character, ‘The Recaller,’ through her sci-fi adventures, beginning with a cybertronic shootout and meditations in dreams and consciousness. Being one of the shorter songs on the album defined by a pulsing verse and chorus, it ends with a moment of calm before the true centerpiece of Overspace & Supertime begins with the 29-minute ‘Stratocumulus Evergaol’ which we can’t wait for all Astrodeath freaks to explore on the February 27th.”

While not commonly known as an extraterrestrial hotspot, Leeds faced an encounter of another kind in 2015 when Bradley and drummer Ryan Sheperson set out to accomplish a project embodying their joint passion for the art of science fiction and heavy metal music. The band unveiled their debut full-length, Visitations From Enceladus, in 2020. The offering received critical acclaim for its adventurous, progressive technical death thrash compositions, a twisted form of extreme metal simply referred to as the “Phenomenal Technological Astrodeath.”

"Overspace & Supertime" continues the conceptual and musical themes of their debut and delivers a new standard of technical thrash/death metal showmanship, including returning influences of progressive writing, harmonized with their fantastical storytelling. “The concept of Overspace & Supertime plays as an alternative reality to the happenings of Visitations From Enceladus, taking our character into new dimensions filled with both greater adventures and more bizarre encounters,” notes Sheperson. “Whilst the concept themes of our sci-fi tale have grown, so have our efforts in synthesizing it with the ultimate Astrodeath soundscape. The record takes the listener on a deeper journey through the fusion of our influences, with some exciting twists and turns along the way.”
