The cleaner vocal approach on the last three albums was a fascinating artistic maneuver, one that refreshed ALLEGAEON, but it’s undeniably thrilling to hear Haynes’ graveled larynx back in the fold on this inarguably brutal and technically dazzling slab of work. "The Ossuary Lens," while not a concept album in the traditional sense, is a representation of several different viewpoints of death. “Each song is a different topic, however there’s always a different perspective of death tied in,” says Haynes. “Since the entire album revolves around this overarching theme of death, and the different viewpoints associated with it, we found ourselves very attached to the word ‘Ossuary,’ and since the album takes a look at death through different points of view, we found The Ossuary Lens to be very fitting for the album title.” The record was recorded with producer Dave Otero at Flatline Audio studio in Denver. The music on "Construction of Conflict" in that sense is more compact and effective without losing its expressive power - there is so much happening that a normal five minute song feels like it's much, much longer than that. And they're not just crammed in for the sake of diversity; the alternate-dimension parts flow fairly coherently, maintaining the groove and/or momentum, and almost always the section that follows. Februus remain one of the most interesting Swedish death metal bands today, always having a trick or three up their sleeves, while maintaining a deceptively rough, clamorous demeanour. This time, the band deliberately fractures the conventions of modern extreme production, opting instead for a more organic and visceral mix that sharpens the defining traits of their work. In Light, No Shape marks the first lineup shift in a decade, as the band sharpen from a quintet to a quartet with founding guitarist Alex Baillie stepping forward as vocalist while retaining guitar duties, following the 2023 departure of founding vocalist Henry “Big Mac” Pryce. “This record is a defining milestone for us. Taking on vocals has pushed us to re-engineer how we experiment with the blend of elements in our sound, unlocking new creative pathways to compliment the core identity of the band.
