Wrapped in yet another evocative cover by Daniele Valeriani, "Vomit Meditations" lives up to its title and features compositions that blend ACAUSAL INTRUSION's signature chaotic, surreal blackened tech-death metal with increasingly cerebral and psychedelic arrangements. The same path was explored on their latest album, "Panpsychism," but here it finds its fullest expression in the extended scores of the quasi-title track "Vomit Meditation," "Requiem Murmur," and "Psychic Abolishment." The songs are true meditations, but entrusted to a brutal and terrifying sound that occasionally dilutes into hallucinatory (at times vaguely melancholic) melodies and hypnotic acoustic interludes with alienating ambient nuances. ACAUSAL INTRUSION's death metal is so annihilating that it almost seems to split matter into tiny particles that whirl around madly in search of a coherent form without finding it, a reason to exist that is constantly denied them... And yet they exist! The greatness of "Vomit Meditations" lies precisely in the American duo's ability to combine Nythroth's twisted death metal riffs, and Cave Ritual's intricate rhythms and cavernous growls with atmospheric interludes and an approach to composition reminiscent of the greats of free jazz, their explicit influence. Starting from positions similar to those of ULCERATE and GORGUTS, ACAUSAL INTRUSION managed to find their own, recognizable stylistic signature, beautifully framed within an occult vision that speaks of terrifying super-dimensional entities ready to assault and overturn our causal reality.

Replacing a singer is no easy task, so the fact that Haynes was in a place to rejoin is reason to celebrate. The cleaner vocal approach on the last three albums was a fascinating artistic maneuver, one that refreshed ALLEGAEON, but it’s undeniably thrilling to hear Haynes’ graveled larynx back in the fold on this inarguably brutal and technically dazzling slab of work. "The Ossuary Lens," while not a concept album in the traditional sense, is a representation of several different viewpoints of death. “Each song is a different topic, however there’s always a different perspective of death tied in,” says Haynes. “Since the entire album revolves around this overarching theme of death, and the different viewpoints associated with it, we found ourselves very attached to the word ‘Ossuary,’ and since the album takes a look at death through different points of view, we found The Ossuary Lens to be very fitting for the album title.” The record was recorded with producer Dave Otero at Flatline Audio studio in Denver. It marks the sixth album recorded with Otero. It’s of no surprise then that the sound on "The Ossuary Lens" pummels the listener, though the ferocity is balanced by the overt melodies.
