"Promethean Sessions" is SOL's ninth full-length studio album, a work with a complex and troubled genesis that stands out as unique in the band's catalogue. Emil Brahe is still at the helm of the project, but this time the Danish multi-instrumentalist has surrounded himself with a large ensemble of talented musicians who accompany him in his folk doom ruminations.
"It is an album that has travelled a lot and seen multiple versions, atmospheres and songs before finally being done," Emil Brahe explains. "With its roots planted equally deep in the doomy soil and more acoustic drone spheres, 'Promethean Sessions' has been layered with nine years of different sessions to texturize the sound and to give an abysmal depth to the album."
Without ever losing sight of the sober and painfully intimate character of the compositions, Brahe took care of the rich arrangements, intertwining - among others - double bass, organ, clarinet, dulcimer, viola, violin and hurdy gurdy, making of "Promethean Sessions" the culmination of a career marked by originality and individualism.

EXECUTIONER'S MASK - Things Fall Apart (official audio)

Taken from the album "Winterlong" out June 17, 2022.

"Things Fall Apart" features guest vocals by Kennedy Ashlyn (SRSQ).

Pre-order "Winterlong" on 2xCD/LP/Digital here: https://linktr.ee/exmask

'Winterlong', the psychedelic new album from EXECUTIONER’S MASK is set for release on CD/LP/Digital from Profound Lore Records on June 17th, 2022. An epic bouquet of swelling synths, hypnotic melodies, and noisy guitars marry post-punk and shoegaze in ten songs exploring themes of liberation and self-destruction in these end-times. In the studio, the core group of Gambit, Mickle and Wilson added Christian Molenaar into the fold on synths; adding an ethereal edge to the band's hard-driving melancholy. Additional touches were added by Kennedy Ashlyn (SRSQ) and Jake Superchi (Uada, Ceremonial Castings), each adding their distinct sonic fingerprints that send their compositions further into territories unexplored.

Featuring production from Jeff Zeigler (The War On Drugs) and Ryan Schwabe (Oneohtrix Point Never), 'Winterlong' is the type of sublime and immersive album that inspires the same visions often conjured by masters like The National, Alcest and Deerhunter. On stage, Gambit, Mickle, and Molenaar are joined by Anthony Charletta on bass, Melissa Lochambon on drums, and Daniel Gaona on guitar to create an explosive force of sound that come together with the potency of 'Children of God' era Swans.

Expanding on the kaleidoscope of ambition, expect to see re-mixes of the album released in a series of their own by an ensemble cast that features members of Deafheaven, Full Of Hell, No Joy, Xiu Xiu, and The Armed amongst an army of others. The first of the “Winterlong” re-mix albums will be released as a bonus disc that will ONLY come with the CD release of “Winterlong” mastered by Angel Marcloid (aka Fire-Toolz).

BLOOD FEAST "Chopped, Sliced and Diced" [Full Mini Album]

CD, t-shirt & more from BLOOD FEAST available here:

https://shop-hellsheadbangers.com/searchAdvanced.asp?searchfor=BLOOD+FEAST

Beloved cult favorites from the '80s, BLOOD FEAST had a couple restarts before finally coalescing into the lean, mean killing machine found on comeback album The Future State of Wicked, released in 2017 to rabid critical acclaim by longtime fans HELLS HEADBANGERS. Keeping that fast 'n' furious momentum going is the special mini-album "Chopped, Sliced and Diced." The four-song firestorm (six songs on the CD and tape version) brings the past into the present with modern re-recordings of classic BLOOD FEAST tracks from their original incarnation. But don't be mistaken by the word "modern," for "Chopped, Sliced and Diced" retains all the rabid, adrenaline-overdosed fury of the band's late '80s heyday - if not more!

As founding guitarist Adam Tranquilli explains, "I felt early on that we should keep the pattern that was set back in the day – an album, followed by an EP with a brand-new track. However, unlike the Face Fate EP, this time, we went with re-recordings rather than remixes for the other tracks. These new studio versions of classic songs from the first two albums mark the recording debut of Adam Kieffer behind the kit, and are ferocious beyond words. Plus, having a warts-and-all live track helps convey our live energy, while honoring our fans and friends in Osaka."

Mastering for "Chopped, Sliced and Diced" has been handled by Toxic Holocaust's Joel Grind. A more-than-satisfying stopgap this is, sure to stoke longtime fans and new ones alike with Tranquilli revealing, "In the meantime, we are deep into the writing for album #4. It shouldn’t be long before we're back in the studio crafting more carnage."

Svart Records are proud to release the new single from extreme progressive Doom metal band Self Hypnosis

Though Self Hypnosis are a new band, aficionados of the British Extreme Doom scene should need little introduction to the band members themselves. The project has its roots in Kris Clayton's long-standing, often-solo, Camel Of Doom outfit, which itself evolved from basic Stoner beginnings towards a much more avant-garde proposal, culminating with the release of fourth full-length album Terrestrial through renowned Russian label Solitude Productions in 2016. Following that, Kris began work on composing the next Camel Of Doom album, but quickly realised that the material was becoming even more experimental and eclectic than previous outings: so much so that it would be more appropriate to record it under a different name, making it clear that there should be no preconception, or historical expectation, attached to it.

Needing a partner to bring the concept to fruition, Kris approached Greg Chandler, whose long-established reputation for recording and production engineering - and, of course, musicianship, co-founder of legendary UK extreme Doom pioneers Esoteric, as well - really does need no elaboration. Greg's name has appeared as a guest vocalist, guitarist and sometime keyboard player on many a release over the years, but this was intended to be a fully collaborative association from the outset, as well as a reuniting of old accomplices - Kris was one of the guitarists in Esoteric's line-up from 2007-2009, rejoining in August 2019.

Completing the line-up for the recording sessions was drummer Tom Vallely, though as a guest/session performer rather than as a full band member. As a professional musician, veteran performer with bands such as Sanctus Nex and Lychgate, and having handled the drums on Terrestrial, Tom was already known to both Kris and Greg and the obvious choice to engage for this project as 'lead drummer'.

The result of their combined endeavours is the full-length album Contagion Of Despair, which was recorded at Greg's Priory Studios using a variety of innovative techniques, including wiring up the whole building to create spacious, expansive recording spaces, or digitising live drums to drag an '80s Hip-Hop sub-bass groove into the mix. Self Hypnosis set out to use all of these techniques, and more, to create a completely unique mix of Doom and non-Doom influences that would nonetheless converge towards a genuinely Prog-Doom result, and with Contagion Of Despair, they've managed that to perfection. Including everything from Kris and Greg's anti-system and alternative roots through to more contemporary experimental/noise influences, the album touches base with a myriad different musical themes.

From "Stormcrowfleet", reissued by Svart Records, 2018.

Remixed from the original analog reels by Anssi Kippo in 2018.

"Stormcrowfleet was originally released in 1995. Until now the album did not exist on vinyl. Instead of taking the easiest route we wanted to make the vinyl version the best it can be. We bought the multi-track tapes at the end of the recording sessions back in the day and have stored them for possible later use. This use became the Stromcrowfleet reissue - not just a vinyl edition but a complete remix of the album from the original recordings.

In the remix sessions nothing was added or changed in the original recordings. The mix was done at Astia-studio with high quality analog equipment. In fact most of the equipment used did exist already in 1995. What did not exist back in the day was more than two decades of audio engineering tradition dedicated to processing extreme metal. In this process that tradition manifested in the form of Anssi Kippo - multiple award winning producer who handled the mixing in co-operation with the band members. In short the target was not to do a different mix but one with the original vision for the album with better equipment and engineering."

BLACK LUNG - Let It Out (official video) // HEAVY PSYCH SOUNDS Records

LET IT OUT is BLACK LUNG new single taken from the 7" digital release LET IT OUT/FALL IN LINE out on September 20th.

"We tracked Let It Out and Fall in Line while we were in the studio recording our 2022 HPS debut album, Dark Waves, but neither song ended up making the final cut. Fast forward to 2024, we found ourselves in the practice space, joking around about how Let It Out sounded like it belonged in a pickup truck commercial for some reason (probably the harmonica and the twangy guitars in the intro). Elias sort of tweaked the idea and came up with a quirky concept for a music video to pair with a digital 7” release of the two tracks.
The video was truly a DIY project in the sense that we didn't have much of a budget or many filming resources available to us. But we had a couple of willing friends, a truck, a dog, and a guitar that we wanted to burn. So in six chaotic and fun hours, we shot the video, ending the day by extinguishing a burning pile of guitar chunks in the middle of a dead-end street."

Matt Friedman as "The Urban Cowboy"
Pongo as "The Trusty Sidekick"

Directed by Elias Mays Schutzman
Filmed and edited by Kevin Considine
Dog handling by Alexandra Friedman

Dave Cavalier - Vocals and guitar

Unable to tour as a group due to commitments to other projects but fueled by the success of the debut release, Brown immediately turned to booking another recording session for the band. Hoping to further expand the group’s dynamic sound, Brown and Stahl solicited song contributions from Mike Riley and Country Mark Engel for the second album. While the core of Brown, Stahl, Riley, Engel and Lalli remained intact for the second session, the group’s diverse approach benefitted from the addition of drummer Adam Maples (earthlings?) and percussionist/drummer Pete Davidson. Additionally, the group was joined at famed Joshua Tree studio Rancho de la Luna by pianist Tim Jones and Bill Barrett on trumpet.

Released in 2003, Dos was immediately embraced as a “. . . compelling fusion of Latin stylings and psychedelic-tinged blues that is a real alternative these days” (cosmiclava.com). Bolstered by similar acknowledgements and reviews of their second album, Orquesta del Desierto committed to a series of performances throughout southern California and a European tour in 2004. Joined by drummer Bryan Brown, these shows have become legendary among the fans who were able to attend the band’s only active period of live performances.

WARBRINGER - Making Of "Woe To The Vanquished" | Napalm Records

WARBRINGER has continued to evolve throughout its four albums into the one of the most aurally devastating bands in the scene today. On March 31st they deliver their monumental 5th record entitled Woe to the Vanquished and make a triumphant step forward on this record--it's an absolute must for ANYONE who’s into metal today.

WARBRINGER singer John Kevill describes the new album musically:
“For the music on this record we re-focused ourselves after a lot of the experiments on Empires Collapse, and decided we wanted to make a record that is start-to-finish more merciless, ruthless, and cruel, but also maintains some of the more melodic and progressive sense. What we ended up with is a record that has a lot of traits of classic thrash but also a lot of extreme metal, and a rather unique version of that blend. It's overall faster and meaner than anything else we've put out, but also has our biggest and most ambitious song, the 11-minute "When the Guns Fell Silent" to close the record.”

Woe to the Vanquished has been carefully crafted over period of time, and the album was produced and mixed by Mike Plottnikoff (Fear Factory, In Flames), mastered by Howie Weinberg (Slayer, Pantera) with cover art by the esteemed Andreas Marschall (Sodom, Blind Guardian, Obituary).

Kevill explains the stunning album artwork, “It is directly based on a photograph from the end of the First World War--a grim monument, a pyramid of 12,000 German spiked helmets, right in the middle of New York City. What struck me about the image is firstly how morbid it seems to be celebrating 12,000 dead men and calling it victory."

Kevill, who is studying to be a history professor, comments on the title, Woe to the Vanquished and the story behind it: “The title "Woe to the Vanquished" comes from early Roman history--before they were the huge empire they became. In 390 BC, a host of Gauls led by a warlord called Brennus attacked Rome, and captured all the city except the Capitoline Hill. From this hill the defeated Romans made a bargain, they would pay 1,000 pounds of gold for the Gallic army to leave the city with no further bloodshed. The Romans bring the gold before Brennus, who uses his own scales to measure it. On the Gaul's scales, the Roman's thousand pounds of gold measured to be less, which led the Romans to complain that the scale was rigged (it probably was). Responding to this, Brennus speaks "Vae Victis" (Woe to the Vanquished) and throws his sword on the counterweight. Because the Romans lost, they have to pay the rigged sum of gold as well as the weight of the sword, to add insult to injury. The irony here is that vowing this type of humiliation would never happen again, Rome went on to become an ancient war machine conquering and subjugating most of the old world. On the record "Woe to the Vanquished" is spoken in an ironic, mocking tone--the defeated are trampled and time marches on, uncaring, and forgets they ever existed.”

“One of the great things about heavy metal as a genre is you can express tougher subject material than "I met a (boy/girl) and it was (happy/sad)". I looked for the most monolithic evil I could find to write about with this destructive, intense music... and I did not have to look any further than reality. Forget Satan, that's a children's story. Real evil is in the hearts of men.”
